Slime putty, slime, flubber, goop, fluffy slime, silly putty….. there are lots of different names for it but this amazing stuff is quite hard to describe! There are loads of different slime recipes and tutorials on how to make slime out there. We’re calling our creation slime putty because it creates a wonderful stretchy, oozy, fluffy slime which is quite structured and putty-like rather than being drippy or goopy. Our recipe includes glue, corn flour, shaving foam and the mysterious ingredient called borax.
What is borax and where can you buy it in UK?
Lots of slime recipes in North America include clothes washing liquid as a key ingredient. This is because some of the main brands (like Tide) have borax in it. However, clothes washing liquid in UK doesn’t make great slime because there is no borax in it. However, you can buy powdered borax in UK for a few pounds on Amazon. You only need a spoonful to make several batches of slime so you won’t need much.
Slime Putty Ingredients
- Half cup white PVA glue
- Half cup shaving foam
- Squirt of hand soap
- Squirt of body lotion/ moisturiser
- Food colouring
- Tablespoon corn flour
- Several tablespoons (6-8) of borax solution. To make the borax solution, dissolve one teaspoon of borax powder in 1 cup of warm water and mix until clear.
How to make slime putty:
- Mix the glue, shaving foam, hand soap, body lotion and corn flour together in a bowl and add some food colouring until you get the colour you want.
- Add 6-8 tablespoons of borax solution, one spoonful at a time. The mix will start to get rubbery. Keep adding more borax solution until you get the consistency you want. We liked to be able to pick our slime putty up without it sticking to our fingers but still have it a bit soft and oozy.
