Located at the former Sports Direct store on Market Street, the Museum of Illusions promises an immersive experience that will delight families of all ages. The 10,700 sq ft space is packed with fascinating holograms, illusion rooms, and interactive exhibits designed to challenge your perception and spark your curiosity. From the Walk-in Kaleidoscope and Vortex Tunnel to the Infinity Room, each exhibit offers a unique opportunity to be delightfully tricked by the eye.

One of the highlights is the custom-made installations that celebrate the city’s rich culture and heritage. Families can experience the Reversed Room, where they appear to hang upside down from a Metrolink tram, or the Following Eyes Illusion, where a famous Manchester persona seems to follow you with their gaze. These exhibits, along with many others, make the Museum of Illusions a perfect blend of entertainment and education for all ages.

Although this museum is suitable for all ages – it’s probably more popular with older children aged 12 onwards especially those who are glued to their mobile phones! There’s some fantastic opportunities to see the real power of illusions by using your phone…we’ll save the tricky and surprises!

We spent 1.5 hours in the museum but you could probably spend longer! There are lockers available to store your bags, and space to park pushchairs. There is a small retail shop where you can buy gifts and a few refreshments but if you’re looking to have lunch or dinner before or after the museum you’re best heading out of the museum to one of the many restaurants Manchester has to offer.

Tickets start at £17.50, and while walk-ins are welcome, it’s recommended to reserve your tickets in advance to secure your preferred time slot. We would also suggest trying to avoid peak times as some of the exhibits can get busy, especially the popular ones but it is possible to do the museum in any order and come back to anything you miss.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the Museum of Illusions offers a fun and educational experience that will leave you and your family talking about it long after your visit. And top tip – think about what positions you are going to get into when you do the “upside down” illusion…it certainly sparked our creativity as a family as you’ll see from the photos!

Don’t miss out on this mind-bending adventure – head to the Museum of Illusions in Manchester for a day of wonder and amazement!
